Denim leggings (Jeggings, as they are often known as ) seem to have exploded on the scene for a last couple of months. I often sell at the local markets and all of a sudden there are these very cool Jeggings in more than one stall. A few weeks ago, no one had ever even heard of them – now that I’ve decided to sell them – they’re everywhere! Just my luck.
So I decided to do some research and here’s what I’ve come up with.
Sandeep Agarwal of denimsand jeans.com has been associated with the Denim Industry for over 17 years. An article on his website states “Some trend analysts were predicting a withering away of the skinny jeans trend and now we are looking at an emaciated version of the Skinny Jeans as the next big trend in Denim.
At the LA Kingpins show in August , Denim leggings along with Vintage styles topped the list of Autumn Trends for Premium Denim.
”
I did a quick google search of denim leggings and came up with hundreds of hits. It appears that many fashionable celebrities have been spotted wearing the new denim leggings. I found photos of dozens well known (and very skinny) celebs pictured in a wide variety of leggings. There’s a photo of Paris to the right as a good example.
The jeggings I sell come from China, are very good quality, have a woven waist band so there’s no elastic to ride, twist, turn loose or create a horrible puckered look. They also come in a huge variety of prints and are specifically targeted at the tweens to late teens market (though my 26 year old daughter wears them and gets dozens of admiring comments).
I personally believe that this is not just a hot trend for this winter but will carry on through many winters (and summers) to come.
Again the advantage of mine is that they are three quarter in length. Here in Australia, where in many states we have such a short winter, this allows you to wear this great fashion item all year round without feeling either too hot or freezing your delicate bits!
How are Denim Leggings different from Skinny Jeans?
I’ve found a number of major differences so here is my top 10 list.
- Denim leggings hug the body just like leggings are supposed to, but look like jeans.
- Denim leggings are usually made from fabric with a high percentage of lycra/spandex – they feel like leggings and move with you.
- Denim leggings do not have a zips, pockets, belt loops or stitching – these are all printed onto the fabric to give the look of zips and pockets without the bulk.
- Denim leggings usually come in a minimum of sizes due to their high stretchability, so one size fits a large range of body shapes.
- Denim leggings come in either full length or capri (3/4) length – perfect for all-year round weather conditions.
- Denim leggings are tight around the legs but have a nice comfy stretch top. Mine are high wasted so they hold the stomach in and – no more muffin tops!.
- Not everyone can carry off a Skinny Jeans but because leggings are far more body hugging, any shape can wear them – as long as you wear a longer top to cover up the bulgy bits!
- Denim leggings are a dream to launder – they can be rinsed out in the shower like any hosiery and dry in a blink (unlike denim jeans).
- Denim leggings are usually cheaper than designer jeans (though this varies with suppliers). Check out my sales page and you’ll get a shock how cheap they can be. At this price you can wear a different pair each day and still not fork out the same money as one pair of good jeans.
- Denim leggings are FUN. They don’t take themselves seriously. They are meant to give you another option for when you’re feeling flirty, or funny or quirky. You can get away with a bit of extra flesh because in these leggings you’re not trying to look like a model – you’re just having a good time!
So – everything you ever wanted to know about denim leggings. If you’d like to see more, check out the range I’ve got for sale here. They’re much cheaper than jeans and at this price you can afford to buy 2 or 3 pairs so you won’t get bored with the same designs.
Be good. Have fun. And always make great memories.
